Michael Esgro

Aloha everyone! I’m Michael, a marine biology student and aspiring scientist. I recently received my B.S. in Biology from UCLA, where I worked on projects ranging from the design of marine protected areas in Indonesia to the identification of new coral reef fish species. I’ve also helped teach biology courses at UCLA and at the Bodega Marine Laboratory. I’m looking forward to going back to school to earn an advanced degree in marine science, and I hope to eventually work as a researcher, professor, and science writer.

I grew up just a few miles from Malibu and have been an ocean lover since I was old enough to go tidepooling and stand up on a surfboard. I’ve always known that I wanted to spend my life exploring and protecting the ocean, and I’m thrilled to be joining the Speak Up For the Blue team. I’ll be using my posts to communicate the latest in marine research, the implications of this research for conservation efforts, and ways that we can all get involved in keeping our oceans clean and safe.
