Oil Spill Legacy Science Expedition – Update

By January 12, 2011 September 16th, 2011 Ocean News

Tar balls and mats in Pensacola, Florida reaching shore! Sylvia Earle and Carl Safina are at sea in the Gulf of Mexico trying to determine the impact 8 months after the BP Oil Spill catastrophe.

Both scientists are warning everyone that a catastrophe such as the spill last April could happen again as there are thousands of oil rigs located and active in the Gulf. Policy changes are necessary to ensure that areas are protected in order to preserve sensitive species and habitats.

What do you think should be done to prevent another oil spill? How can governments ensure marine species and habitats are protected from harm?

See the video from at Sea! Thanks to Sylvia and Carl for keeping the environment at the forefront of the media!
