That finding lands in a region already dealing with a severe, climate-change-driven drought, from record-low Rhine water levels in Germany to Dutch officials warning of water shortages not seen since 1976. The researchers behind the modeling are careful not to call the effect severe on its own, and Andrew is clear that this doesn't mean offshore wind causes drought, current turbine density is far below what's planned for 2030 and 2050, and more research is needed before drawing firm conclusions. His take: this is a legitimate planning consideration for how future wind farms get sited and configured, not a reason to slow down the shift away from oil.
